Every July since the 15th century, the year in Sabucedo culminates with a noble confrontation between man and horse—the Rapa das Bestas (translated as The Capture of the Beasts). On that day the young people of Sabucedo head for the mountains at dawn. Their aim is to find the wild horses, and bring them to the village. They use no tools other than their strength and cunning to drive them off the mountains and into the village, corral them, mount the wild horses, delouse them and cut their manes for both their living and the health of the horse.
